PS 24 Students Featured in S'Cool Sounds Newsletter...

Kenya<->New York City

This year saw a dynamic and emotional virtual exchange between children in a S'Cool Sounds (SCS) music program in Sunset Park, Brooklyn and one of our music teams in the Kibera slum of Nairobi. Students at PS24 learned the Kenyan national anthem, a popular Swahili gospel song, and a traditional Luhya song which they performed (in 3-part harmony!) in a live concert over Skype for the students in Nairobi. If you listen to the clip closely, you’ll hear the Kenyan students singing along - immensely touched that students from half a world away had learned music that is so dear to them. The Kenyan students then shared - with immense pride and joy - the piece they are preparing in order to defend their first place title at the 2018 Kenyan National Music Festival.

Soccer Program at PS 24

October 2017

The New York City Football Club (NYCFC) sponsors a twenty week -long weekday and Saturday soccer program that runs in partnership with the school. The program is designed to teach fundamental technical skills, develop confidence and promote teamwork and sportsmanship. The soccer coach also educates students on healthy eating habits and the importance of regular exercise. Both the NYCFC and the school believe that soccer is a great tool to connect young people in a fun and engaging environment.
